Program governance
How a CARA micro grant is decided.
CARA requires a website application before any award is issued. That single requirement is what establishes CARA's independence, transparency and audit trail.
A referral or recommendation does not constitute an award or guarantee funding. All applicants must satisfy CARA's eligibility, due-diligence, compliance, and program requirements before an award may be approved.

Recommendation
CARA or a community partner may recommend a nonprofit or for-profit organization for consideration. A recommendation is recorded on the application, it is not a decision.

Application
The organization completes the CARA Community Investment Micro Grant Application on this website. This step is mandatory for every applicant, including referred organizations.

Review
CARA reviews eligibility, residency or service area, organizational and business standing, proposed use of funds, public or economic-development purpose, budget, conflicts of interest, prior funding and performance, ability to document expenditures, and measurable outcomes.

Decision
CARA approves, approves with conditions, adjusts the amount, or declines. The basis for the decision is recorded with the application.
Reconsideration
If your application is declined or your award amount is adjusted, you may request reconsideration in writing within 15 days of the decision notice by contacting CARA at info@cara-now.org. CARA's decision on reconsideration is final.

Award agreement
An approved applicant executes an award agreement setting out the approved use of funds, documentation requirements and performance expectations.

Disbursement
Funds are released under the terms of the agreement, against the approved budget.

Monitoring & reporting
CARA tracks expenditures and measurable results, and reports on program outcomes.

Closeout
Final reporting is completed and the award is closed out with the recipient.
